Fly tipping, a real issue in our time
Fly tipping, who’s fault is it?
Colchester borough council has recently changed their policy on disposing waste at the local tip. They have set a maximum waste allowance per a car. Furthermore they changed the rules of who can dispose of their waste for “free”. Before October 2017 you were able to drive into their tip with any vehicle. Now the word is out that commercial vehicles are not permitted to enter the site. Fly tipping has therefore been on increase in Colchester area. Our drivers always mention they have seen rubbish left on the side of the roads.
Facebook ads are still appearing on several selling pages about a man & a van. People who are most of the time not registered as waste carriers. People who advertise so called “tip runs” for a fraction of the cost. We understand that most of the time people try to save money. Why pay £95.00 for a skip hire, when you can pay £30.00 and it will be taken away by “man & a van”? Most of the time, these choices are made because the public is not aware. They don’t think that “Joe Bloggs”is Fly tipping.
Fines for Fly tipping
Colchester borough council has published an article about fixed penalties for Fly tipping. As Fly tipping is against the law individuals have a duty of care to take reasonable measures to ensure that waste produced on their property is passed on to an authorised person who will dispose of the waste responsibly. If the waste can be traced back to its source and the individual hasn’t taken reasonable measures to dispose of it then they may be liable for a fine. Source
The easiest way to find a reputable company like Core Fusion Skip hire is to search the records on environmental agency portal. A reputable waste carrier will be registered and will hold a valid licence with their unique number. Companies such as Core Fusion Limited get inspected, which includes all the paper trail which will confirm the correct procedures of waste disposal as well as site visits if the company has their own transfer station.
If we all take better care of our own waste, then maybe, just maybe we should all be able to enjoy the planet together.
