Most frequent mistakes of hiring a skip
We compiled the most frequent mistakes of customers who hired a skip for their waste disposal. We though this will be a helpful guide for people who have never hired a skip. A short crash course on what to think about and how to decide, just what size skip you should hire.

1. Assessing the amount of Waste you are planning to get rid of
When it comes to hiring a skip for your domestic waste, we often see people ordering a smaller size skip. This is in theory ok. Make sure you have accounted for all the waste you would like to dispose. There is also an art in loading your skip to maximize its space. The best advice we give our customers is to gather all your waste together. Load the skip with appropriately sized waste. As the skips are not square, take into account, that waste which is smaller would be better loaded first. Any longer waste, like wooden doors or wardrobes, would be best laid on top at the end. It is customer’s responsibility that the skip is not overloaded and unsafe for transport.
2. Wedging wood on the side of the skip to create a “bigger Skip” is a no-no
Drivers often refuse skips which are deemed as unsafe for transport. Wedging planks of wood or plasterboard on the side of the skip is not allowed. It is also extremely dangerous to other road users. Imagine driving behind a skip lorry, which has just lost part of their load, because that plank snapped! We know, we wouldn’t like to see what happens next, and we are confident, nor would you. To make sure safety for all road users and our drivers, please load your skip hire in Colchester sensibly. Do not use extra height extensions and fill only up to the top of the skip.
3.Ordering a skip that is too small will cost you more than 1 large skip
Unless you have a very tight front garden and you can’t have a bigger size skip. Having 2 smaller skips will always be more expensive than having 1 larger skip. Which Brings us back to Point 1. We can’t stress enough how important it is to assess the waste you are disposing. Make sure all can fit safely into the skip delivered. This is the best way to avoid having to order a second skip. We offer a variety of different skip sizes to suit every project. If you are unsure and would like some honest advice. Our team here at Core Fusion is ready to help. They can suggest the best way to dispose your household waste. They’ll save you money in the process.
4. Forgetting to let us know you are placing restricted items in the skip
From time to time, we find all types of waste in our skips. The most frequent items removed from a skip are those listed on our website. We clearly state that these items are not allowed in the skip. Or items which can go in, but are charged extra. Sofa disposal or mattress disposal is allowed in our skip hire. However, they are charged extra. This charge includes processing and disposing of your waste in an environmentally friendly way. It is important therefore, to inform us. Drivers will either remove waste that shouldn’t be in the skip or waste that should have been paid for additionally. When you order a skip online, these items can be added at the time of booking.
